We are passionate and courageous

As well as a wealth of expertise, we bring enthusiasm and unwavering commitment to our work. We’re passionate about the work we do, and we’re courageous in the way we do it. We are dedicated, enthusiastic, and committed (passion), and we dare to take risks, face challenges, and stick to our moral principles (courage).

To us, being passionate means:

  •  going above and beyond to meet our clients’ needs
  • building great relationships with everyone we meet
  • believing in our purpose: that every business has the potential to be better

To us, being courageous means:

  • embracing difficult conversations, challenges or setbacks
  • feeling able to be entirely ourselves
  • pushing boundaries and embracing change

Last month we talked about one of our values ‘outcome obsessed’, why we chose it, what it means to us and how it’s lived through everyday life at work. Next in our series where we’ll explore our (now-not-so-new) values is ‘passionate and courageous’.

When a business truly gets behind values, it should permeate through the entire organisation – so that if you cut a team in half – you’d see it in its veins. Being passionate and courageous might seem self-explanatory on the surface, it’s a value many people can get behind, but to us at smart/tasking it means more than what it says on the tin.

Team confidence and enthusiasm:

With a wealth of expertise and an unwavering commitment to our work, our team members are rightly confident and enthusiastic – and we want them to show it! They go above and beyond to meet client needs and invest time and care in building great relationships, driven by our collective belief that every business has the potential to be better. Our team isn’t afraid to tackle challenges head-on (in fact, they relish them!)

Collective growth mindset:

Passion for learning and improvement is always encouraged, and we all take continuous development of skills and knowledge into our own hands. This growth mindset is fuelled by a deep sense of purpose – the conviction that our work makes a meaningful difference.

Vulnerability and authenticity:

We want employees to feel safe to show vulnerability to anyone they encounter; colleagues, leaders and clients, always feeling able to openly admit uncertainties or ask for help. Everyone who works with smart/tasking is empowered to be entirely themselves, embracing exactly who they are without fear of judgement.

Constructive feedback and difficult conversations:

We want the act of giving and receiving feedback, even when it’s challenging, to be the norm around here. Team members should have the courage to have tough conversations, address setbacks, and push each other to grow, all while staying true to moral principles.

Embracing change and pushing boundaries:

We touched on it earlier, but rather than shying away from change or challenges, we enthusiastically embrace them. We are willing to take risks, try new approaches, and push the boundaries of what’s possible, driven by our passion and courage.

Tips for being passionate and courageous: if you’re looking to embrace a similar mindset in your work or organisation, here are some practical tips:

  • Ask for honest feedback from mentors, colleagues, or coaches, because their insights can help you develop self-awareness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Surround yourself with people who will encourage your growth.
  • Deliberately seek out new challenges, experiences, and growth opportunities, even if they make you feel uncomfortable.
  • Reframe failures as learning opportunities. Reflect on what went wrong, what you can do differently next time, and how you can grow from the experience.

When passion and courage are embraced by the entire team, it can create a dynamic, resilient organisation that is unafraid to innovate, take risks, and push the boundaries of what’s possible. This cultural foundation empowers everyone to contribute to the company’s success and make a meaningful impact. It’s not an easy feat to truly live by your business values, but it’s one we’re working towards, one day at a time!
